COOKING: WALDORF SALAD



I am not sure what defines “salad” but I am pretty sure a Waldorf Salad may be crossing a line. This salad is just too good to be true. First created in 1893 by the maître d’hôtel of the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, this salad has become a classic. It is perfect for special occasions, parties, luncheons or just a great fall meal.

For those unfamiliar with a Waldorf Salad let me enlighten you. A Waldorf Salad is a delectable mix of assorted fruits and nuts with a wonderful combination of sweet and savory tastes. An all-around party for your taste buds!

Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2  apples
  • 1 cup red seedless grapes, sliced in half
  • 1 cup celery, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chopped, slightly toasted walnuts
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Lettuce


What to do
  1. Prep fruit and Vegetables: Core and chop apples. Slice in half grapes and thinly slice celery.
  2. Place chopped walnuts in a 300 degree oven for 8 minutes
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  4. Stir in the apple, celery, grapes, and walnuts.
  5. Serve on a bed of fresh lettuce.
