It seems cliché to suggest going to Salem at Halloween time
but I will.
Salem historically and currently, is the mecca of everything
witch related. Salem is site of the infamous witch trials of 1693, home to the
modern day Wicca religion (based on witchcraft traditions) and any and all
commercialized deviations of witches.
Salem gets a bit teeming with visitors during the Halloween
season but there is something amazingly wonderful about the jam-packed-ness of
the season in Salem. Walking the ancient streets, bumping into visitors in
costumes and weaving in and out of stores packed to the ceiling with tarot card
readers and fortune tellers is a truly fun experience not to be missed.
To add to the already festive feel there are carnival rides,
ghost houses and tours of all the creepy Salem historic sites of the past. If
you do choose to visit close to Halloween time you can participate in many of
the town activities including a costumed pet parade. Additionally there are a fantastic selection
of food offerings, micro-breweries and bars.
Parking as you can imagine is a challenge during this peak
season so plan to get there early.
