TIPS & TRICKS: SURVIVING THANKSGIVING FAMILY TIME

Just as a full belly is expected on Thanksgiving so too is an onslaught of family visitors. Sometime a wonderful experience, sometimes a stressful one. However you view it there are some tips and tricks to make the day move smoothly and not turn into a turkey of a day!
  • Have a Job or Assign One!
Whether you are the host or the guest it is always best to have something to do. Be it in the kitchen or setting up the dining room. Make sure everyone has a role to play on the big day.
  • Keep it Superficial
Keep the conversation light and upbeat. No discussions about politics or religion. A heated discussion is a sure fire way to cause a fight or disagreement.
  • Time Out
We all need some alone time when faced with an overload of socialization. Have a quiet space and plausible excuse to escape to when things get too much.
  • Keep to a Schedule
Communicate when you must leave or when you are expecting others to leave your house. The later may not be easily executed but trust me it is a “must” when it comes to Thanksgiving survival.
  • Diversion
When not on set-up or cooking duty keep people and yourself busy. Photos and games work well.
  • Keep it in Perspective
Thanksgiving is after all a time to give thanks. Remember to appreciate the day and all you have to be thankful for....additionally it is one day a year!
