DAY TRIP: A PERFECT HOLIDAY STROLL IN BOSTON

When I was a little girl every December my family would make our way into Chicago to see the Christmas lights. It really is one of my fondest memories and one tradition that I have included with my children. Everyone looks forward to the ride into the city, the chilly walk around the city and a special dinner in the North End.

We typically do the same route year after year. We do this because we are kind of creatures of habit and also because it is really fun!
  • We start off with looking at the Prudential Center tree and then move down Tremont Street to view the tree at Trinity Church.
  • Cutting over to Newbury Street which is an amazing sight to behold as all the trees lining Newbury are light up. We look in the store windows decorated for the season and stop to get some hot chocolate or coffee in one of the numerous coffee houses.
  • Newbury ends at the public garden which works out well as we need to walk through the garden to get to the Boston Common.  We love to walk past the frog pond to watch the ice skaters. If we time it right the Boston Commons trees will be light up and it is truly magical to see.
  • Walking through the Commons to Downtown Crossing we like to look in the windows of Macys. At this point typically hunger sets in.
  • We pick up our pace as we head into the North End via the Rose Kennedy Greenway which additionally has some wonderful lights.
  • Once in the North end we have a great dinner at La Famila, a family favorite.
  • We head back through Faneuil Hall. For several years Faneuil Hall has had a beautiful synchronized music and light show as well as an amazing tree.
Happy Holidays!
