DAY TRIP: BOSTON HARBORWALK

There is no denying that Boston has something for everyone and the Boston’s Harborwalk does indeed have just about everything covered! The harborwalk is a great walk with amazing views, food options galore and historic sites to see.

The Boston Harborwalk stretches from Boston all the way to Dorchester. Currently the Harborwalk covers some 40 miles and once completed it will span close to 50 miles. Hugging Boston’s shoreline the Harborwalk winds in and out of neighborhoods, wharfs, historical sites and working maritime operations.

By all means attempt to forge ahead with walking the whole of the Boston Harborwalk, but if taking small chunks out of the harborwalk seems more to your liking then start your adventure in the Seaport District. Be warned this walk is not for the lighthearted…it will be a lot of walking!

  • Start off the Harborwalk at the ICA Museum. The museum steps are a great place to pause and take in the amazing view of the city and waterway.
  • From the ICA  walk towards the Boston Courthouse – which is an incredible building to just look at but they also offer tours.
  • Cross over the pedestrian bridge and make your way past the Boston Harbor Hotel and on towards the Boston Aquarium.
  • At the Aquarium it is always a treat to take a look at the outdoor tanks which are home to a group of seals.
  • Next up is a boat trip…The T has a shuttle boat and for a modest price you can hop on board and take a mini boat tour of this section of the harbor getting off in Charlestown.
  • Once in Charlestown walk towards the Navel Yard. If time permits take a tour of the USS Constitution
  • Head back over the Charlestown Bridge
  • Once over the Bridge you can continue to follow the Boston Harborwalk or veer off and get something to eat in the North End or Fannellial Hall.
  • At this point you will be backtracking your way to your car or T stop so deviate a little and take in the Rose Kennedy Greenway before hopping back onto the Harborwalk.

There are tons of food and ice cream options as well as sites to see. The Boston Harborwalk is really one of the things that make our city so special and such a walkable place to enjoy.

There is parking in the Seaport District as long as you get there early. You can also take the Grey Line if the T is a better option for you. Harborwalk signs are clearly posted so no fear of losing your way.
