Walden Pond, made famous by Henry David Thoreau, is
typically not a first thought for a winter’s day excursion - but it should be!
Be it spring, summer, fall or winter Walden Pond has a magical quality that
everyone can enjoy but I feel is almost heightened in the winter.
Although known as a pond Walden Pond is really a lake which
is located in Concord Massachusetts.
The “pond” was formed some 10,000 years ago by receding ice age glaciers. Previously owned by the Emerson family, Walden Pond is now a State Park with over 335 acres of land including the “pond”.

For the
Thoreau enthusiast Walden Pond is the Mecca. There is a replica of Thoreau
himself and his small one room cabin, a tribute to Thoreau made out of stones
left by hikers and guided tours lead by Park Rangers telling the story of this
author and environmentalist. Aside from a Thoreau themed visit you can hike
several trails or take part in a slew of educational environmental options the
park has to offer.
Walden Pond is a treat any time of year but in winter you can find a quietness that does not exist during other seasons.
