DAY TRIP: A HOUSE MADE OF PAPER...ROCKPORT'S PAPER HOUSE

Feel like straying off the beaten path or maybe taking a turn to the unusual? Then do I have a fun outing for you. The Paper House located in Rockport is just what it sounds like…a house made of paper. The outside, the inside, the fireplace, the tables, even the piano is paper. It is a curious spectacle to see this small paper cottage located on a quaint suburban street, but worth the viewing.

Built in 1922 by a mechanical engineer named Elis Stenman. Stenman started building the cottage as a summer retreat for him and his wife. What started out I am sure as a thrifty insulating move on his part turned into what appears to be an obsession with paper. Nothing seems to have escaped the newspaper and varnish treatment.

The very reasonably priced admission fee gets you inside the house and includes a self-guided tour. Located near the Rockport town center (which is a great destination trip in and of itself) the house makes for a fun day outing.
