One of the very best parts of living in New England is you are never too far from the ocean - I realize this is all relative. Being from the Midwest where you need to take a flight or a really really long car trip to dip your toes in salt water, I think anyone within a day trip of the ocean is pretty dang close. I have found that with the ocean it typically follows that there is an adorable ocean town. This is the case with Rockport MA.
The town of
Rockport is surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean. It is a great mix
of old and
new and has stores, art galleries, fishing boats and restaurants galore. Additionally Rockport is home to a celebrity of sorts it is known as Motif No.1 and is cited as one of the most painted buildings in the United States and possibly beyond. The old red building has fishing nets and buoys hanging from it and looks every bit as perfect a New England scene as it is is meant to be.

There is a
tourist vibe to Rockport but it somehow holds its own as a sweet picturesque
fishing village. A walk on the rocky beach or a stroll down to the end of the
store lined town pier makes for a fun outing. Located under 50 miles from
Boston it is a great day trip and worth the travel.
