There are a lot of museums out there. Some are more child focused, some dedicated to classical art and others science concentrated – the actual list goes on. Whatever your preference I would encourage you to visit the DeCordiva Museum.
Located on a
former estate, the DeCordova Museum is the largest museum of rotating modern
and contemporary American art in New England. In addition to the typically engaging
exhibits inside the museum there are the outdoor sculpture gardens that make the
trip. Along with viewing the sculptures visitors can enjoy trails, hiking,
biking, picnics, dog walking, and in winter cross-country skiing and snow
shoeing.
The
park is situated on 35 acre of woodlands and lawns overlooking a large pond and
is the largest contemporary large-scale sculpture park in the region. The grounds prove a beautiful backdrop to the
75 pieces that populate the grounds at any given time. A good portion of the sculptures blend deceivingly well with
the grounds while others are stand alone but equally engaging as well as
whimsical. The museum offers a summer family program, which is designed for families with children and includes a guided tour and hands-on art activities. Admission to the DeCordova is reasonably priced however library passes are an option.
The
DeCordova is located at 51 Sandy Pond
Road in Lincoln.
