CRAFT: HANGING HEARTS

We have four birthdays in February so Valentine’s Day always has taken a back seat. Let’s be honest Valentine ’s Day holds the potential to be what I call a “let down” holiday – a lot of hype which leads to let down. Wow a little bit of a Debbie Downer there apologies. I really do like the holiday and what it stands for and to that effort I have enjoyed reclaim the “holiday” as a non-commercial avenue to say I love you to those near and dear to me. How you might ask? Well every year I make something. And this year is no exception with these sweet adorable hearts! They are super easy to make and can be scented to be used in closets or just as decorations. Here are the steps:

What you will need
  • Fabric (amount dependent on how many hearts you want to make and size of cookie cutter)
  • Oversized heart cookie cutter
  • Needle and thread to match fabric color
  • Pillow stuffing
  • Ribbon
  • Button
  • Lavender spray (optional)

What to do
  1. Lay the fabric that you will be using on a flat surface and using an oversized heart shaped cookie cutter outline 2x heart shapes on the fabric.
  2. Cut the hearts out and pin them together nice side of the fabric facing in.
  3. Start to sew the two pieces together leaving a small opening in which the pillow stuffing will be inserted.
  4. Insert the pillow stuffing and sew the opening up.
  5. Cut the ribbon to the length desired (remember it needs to be doubled so it can be looped around a something)
  6. Sew the ribbon to the heart.
  7. Attach/ sew a button to the ribbon for added decoration.
